Today, reports are emerging that second-generation Chromecasts and Chromecast Audio devices for music streaming are experiencing issues, displaying an error on the device they’re attempting to cast from that suggests the streamers may no longer be supported, as reported by 9to5Google.
The text from screenshots of the error posted on Reddit reads, “Untrusted device,” and continues, stating that the device “couldn’t be verified. This could be due to outdated device firmware.” Understandably, people are worried that Google might be phasing out the streaming devices, both of which are now quite old, and sending them to the Google graveyard.
As 9to5Google points out, the company hasn’t said it is deprecating the two, as it did for the original Chromecast in 2023. At least one member of the Chromecast community has reached out to Google support and were told that the company is aware of the issue and is awaiting a fix. Google didn’t immediately respond to our request for comment.
